    be me. it's early 2020 and you see a gifset of ducktales 2017 and think ok i'll watch that cz i'm bored. you watch the golden lagoon of white agony plains and have your psyche irreversibly changed forever.i'm normal about scroldie. so normal that i made an oc to ship with them that now has an extensive backstory with them. maya started out as a self-insert, but the more i worked on them the more they grew into their own person. it's funny because i actually started shipping with only scrooge, then was too shy to dive headfirst into scroldie so i just said "i'll give maya some backstory with goldie and make an AU where they're the ship instead". then i gave maya an almost complete overhaul, where only their backstory with goldie remained the same. eventually i shifted to focusing on maya and goldie's relationship.the foundation of what i dub "the cnot3verse" is mostly ducktales 2017 with some bits from other duckverse media thrown in depending on what i like. there's also a dt87 version of maya you'll find somewhere in the archive, but i barely talk about them."cnot3" is the shorthand i use for the polyam ship with maya/goldie/scrooge. goldie is kind of the hinge? maya and scrooge are like a secret third thing idk. it came from "chicken nugget ot3" because maya is a chicken and nugget can also mean gold nugget. like maya's name, it was supposed to be a placeholder but it just stuck.i know most people think scroldie should not be parents, and i agree for the most part, but i still gave them a fan kid for the funsies. the baby isn't part of the main lore she's just there for shenanigans.

    Lore/Timeline Summary

    These are the shortened versions of events, so feel free to ask for more details about anything!

    Pre-Canon

    Maya's childhood: Maya and Steelbeak are cousins by blood who were very close throughout their younger years. Maya was older than Steelbeak by two years, but he was bigger and taller, so he always acted very protective of them. Eventually Steelbeak had to move to America, and their communication gradually whittled down until they no longer kept in touch with each other.Before Spear of Selene
    ↪ Maya moves to Duckburg and meets Launchpad. He's their first friend in Duckburg.
    ↪ Scrooge and Goldie have a nasty fight. Things go unresolved between them.    After Spear of Selene (~10 years before DT17 Canon)
    ↪ Della goes missing, and Donald leaves and takes Della’s eggs (unborn kids) with him.
    ↪ For a while, Scrooge sinks into a really deep depression. He sinks almost all of his money into finding Della and getting her back.
    ↪ Beakley shows up at Scrooge’s door with baby Webby in her arms. She seeks refuge, and Scrooge, still grieving over having lost all of his kids, wholeheartedly accepts her and Webby into his home.
    ↪ Goldie hears about the SoS incident, not from him, but from its very publicized news coverage. She tries to reach out to him, but decides to leave him alone after seeing him with Beakley, holding Webby.
    ↪ Scrooge still remains reclusive. Eventually his board of directors forces him to get back on his feet. They make him go to a gala at Duckburg museum to rub elbows.
    ↪ The gala includes an art showcase, with Maya being one of the featured artists.
    ↪ Scrooge spends some time browsing the gallery. Maya (having no idea who he is) wanders nearby, and Scrooge decides to rant to them about his criticisms about their own painting. They find this amusing, and he leaves without ever realizing their ID was matching the nameplate next to the painting.
    ↪ Goldie arrives fashionably late on purpose. She’s heard of the event and knows that Scrooge might be there, so she hopes she will bump into him “accidentally”. She also knows that somewhere in the museum is a hidden clue that supplements a map she has, leading to a scavenger hunt of sorts: the perfect reason for both of them to go adventuring together.
    ↪ Unfortunately, Goldie just misses him. Goldie is frustrated once she realizes this. Not wanting to waste her efforts in showing up at the museum, she stays after hours and tries to find the hidden clue.
    ↪ Her deductions lead her to the wall right where Maya’s artwork is mounted. She tries to lift the artwork off the wall so she can find the clue.
    She chips off a part of the plaster easily and finds the hidden slip of paper. She’s about to put the artwork back on the wall carefully, until Maya catches her in the midst of the act.
    ↪ Maya mistakenly thinks she’s going to steal their artwork and threatens to call the cops, before Goldie manages to slip away from them.    The Caves Incident
    ↪ Maya's realized Goldie was there for something else, and being a bit snoopy and bored, they decide to find out what she found.
    ↪ Goldie tries to trip them up and shake them off her trail, but for some reason they’re really hard to get rid of.
    ↪ Maya comes up with some bullshit excuse about how they’re entitled to know what’s on the paper and where it leads to because Goldie found it behind their artwork. Goldie thinks it was just a coincidence and rolls her eyes at them.
    ↪ Eventually Maya catches up to her and saves her life, and solves the riddle on the slip of paper for her—she never does anything with anyone ever, but she thinks they might be helpful, so she finally lets them tag along, with the intention of ditching them as soon as they get close to the treasure.
    ↪ Maya and Goldie fall into an underground cave system after some argument. Goldie wants to scout the area by herself, but Maya refuses to split up. The cave is jarringly empty.
    ↪ Eventually they find a portal and discover that they're trapped in a pocket dimension where time is suspended.
    ↪ The two of them try to solve puzzles to find the exit, at first being extremely competitive (with Maya trying to prove they can keep up). The last puzzle involves cooperation and they're forced to work together.
    ↪ They exit, but are now back to where they started. The cave system is looping and endless, and mentally exhausted and out of options, they decide to rest and start a campfire.
    ↪ Maya tries to start conversation, and Goldie, thinking she'll never see them again after this, decides to tell them what she's really looking for: a family heirloom that her family’s lost some generations ago. Her parents would always tell her stories about it, and about how it used to bring great fortune to them.
    ↪ Maya realizes that, despite being stuck in there for hours now, they haven’t really felt hungry or even tired. Goldie deduces that wherever and whenever they’re stuck in, it leaves their bodies in an almost suspended state.
    ↪ The two of them eventually find the heirloom.
    ↪ Goldie realizes that the heirloom is their key to fully escaping the cave system once and for all, but after they end up using it, they can’t take it outside because it’s been bound to the confines of this space.
    ↪ Maya almost sacrifices themself just to make the heirloom work, but Goldie doesn’t let them, and ends up finding a loophole to get them both to safety.
    ↪ As soon as they finally find their way out of the cave system, Goldie thinks of leaving Maya behind and forgetting about the whole experience. Maya calls out for Goldie, thinking they had lost her and left her behind. They don’t want to leave until they find her. Goldie eventually hears them, and even though she doesn’t want it to, guilt overtakes her and she decides to pretend to finally find them after she’s been searching, too.    The Hotel Incident
    ↪ After getting out of the caves, the fatigue from their adventure finally starts to catch up to their bodies. They entered the caves at night, but no time has passed at all after they get out.
    ↪ There's a Blackjack Hotel nearby, but Goldie doesn't want Maya to find out anything more about her personal life, so she just pretends to be a regular customer.
    ↪ Unfortunately, the hotel is packed and there's only one room available that Maya could afford (since they won't let her pay for everything).
    ↪ They sleep in separate beds. Goldie wakes up first in the middle of the next day and immediately wants to leave, but Maya ropes her into staying for brunch.
    ↪ Scrooge is staying at the hotel too apparently and he meets eyes with Goldie in the dining hall. Goldie, still upset from what she saw, decides to ignore him. She notices how visibly jealous Scrooge is and decides to mess with him by openly flirting with Maya. Scrooge leaves, disgruntled.    [will continue typing later lolz]
